Hello my name is Kharah Bell and I’m an avid concert goer! I love music and two of my favorite genres are Hip-Hop and R&B. I love seeing my favorite artists perform live, it’s an experience that I can’t get anywhere else. I went to my first concert when I was a little girl. I’m not exactly sure what concert it was that I first attended, but I want to say my very first time at a concert was when my mom took me to see Raven Symoné at the Houston Rodeo. It wasn’t until high school that I started going to concerts frequently. I’ve only been to concerts in Houston, and a lot of the artists that I’ve seen perform live say they love coming to Houston! There are two R&B artists coming to Houston very soon. Alina Baraz will be here Thursday, September 6th, and Miguel will be here on Monday, September 10th. I’m not too familiar with Alina Baraz, but I enjoy listening to her EP, The Color of You, that was recently released in April of this year. Baraz made her debut in 2015 with her EP, Urban Flora, that she made in collaboration with another artist, Galimatias. When she comes to Houston on Thursday she’ll be performing in the Ballroom of Warehouse Live. This venue hosts upcoming artists that are on their way to the top! I saw H.E.R. there last November, and she too is a very talented R&B singer. The Ballroom of Warehouse Live is a venue that runs on a first come, first served basis, and it is standing room only. Alina Baraz may not be a world-renowned superstar, but her show on Thursday is sold out! She also has an opener named Cautious Clay, but I’ve never heard of him before. I did some research, and I’ve come to know that he is a singer from Brooklyn. Miguel is a grammy award winner and he is traveling across North America with his Ascension Tour. Accompanying him on this tour is an R&B duo, DVSN. I am big fan of Miguel, but I wasn’t able to really get into his last album, War and Leisure. It’s not that I hated it or anything, I just think I needed to give it a few more listens. I like his older music better. I also am a fan of DVSN, and I actually really like their latest project titled, Morning After. I’m assuming that songs that will be performed at this concert will be from the artists’ latest projects. The Ascension Tour will be held at the Revention Music Center Downtown. I just went to see two other R&B artists, Teyana Taylor and Daniel Caesar there two weeks ago. I’m not the biggest fan of the venue. It has standing room, and assigned seating. I don’t like buying tickets for standing room because I’m short and I won’t be able to see unless I’m in the very front and I won’t be in the front unless I get to the venue hours ahead of time. I’ll only pay for standing room if I really love the artist, that’s the only reason why I saw H.E.R. at Warehouse Live. The seats at Revention Music Center are almost just as bad. When I went to see Taylor and Caesar I was in seats and I could barely see anything. I think the stage there is too small. Something is off about the setup there. I won’t be attending either of these upcoming concerts that I mentioned, but I’m sure that all the performers will put on a great show! Maybe I’ll buy a ticket to one of their shows in the future!
