Hive Mind Tour

Screen Shot 2018-11-13 at 5.01.32 PM

I am so excited to say that I will be attending a concert this week, I feel like I haven’t been to one in a long time. The last show I went to was when I went to see Megan Thee Stallion at Sam Houston, and I’m not even going to count that because it was really a concert it was party and she performed there. I didn’t have the best time, but it’s not her fault. She did great, but I could barely see because a group full of tall dudes bum rushed to the front, so they could drool over her. I heard she’s supposed to be having a concert sometime this month at the Smart Financial Centre, so hopefully I’ll be able to go see that. All of that is beside the point though. This Sunday I’ll be going to see The Internet at the House of Blues, and it should be a really amazing experience because I got Meet & Greet Tickets! I’ve never seen the Internet before in concert, but I have seen their lead singer Syd in concert. She dropped her first solo album last year called Fin, and it was great.  That concert was around this same time last year at the same place, and I actually got to meet her. My friend and I saw some of the people hanging around the concert, so we decided to hang around too. We met one of the openers Tayla Parks she’s singer and famous songwriter, and she was selling merchandise and we got to take pictures with her. She also played Little Inez in the Hairspray movie, she was so nice. Later Syd and her mom came out and they were both very sweet and we got to take pictures with Syd as well.

My friend that I went to the concert with last year, Amari actually put me on to The Internet’s music a couple of years ago, and I’ve been a fan ever since. They have four albums Purple Naked Ladies, Feel Good, Ego Death, and Hive Mind. I like that latest two, Ego Death and Hive Mind the most. After they dropped Ego Death in 2015 they all took a break from the band and worked on solo projects. The only person’s solo project I heard was Syd’s, but I’m interested in hearing the other’s. If they’re as good as they are as a group, they have to be good individually. They’re an R&B Soul/ Neo Soul type band and their music is just phenomenal. If you like R&B I think you’d be a really big fan of them.

There are five members of the band. There was a sixth member, Jameel, but he left the group. The only two members that I’m really familiar with are Syd and Steve Lacey. There’s also Matt Martians, he and Syd brought the band together. Then there’s Chris and Patrick, who I don’t know anything about, but hopefully I can get know more about them at the meet and greet. I received an email today that explained how the meet and greet was going to go, and it said we would be able to take a picture with the band and receive a signed poster. I’m hoping that’s not all it entails because I at least wanted to be able to talk to the band members. I’ve never been to a meet and greet, so I don’t know how it will go, but hopefully I enjoy myself. If you’re a fan of The Internet, and you haven’t gotten tickets to the show yet, you can still find some at live nation.com!

Super Duper Kyle

Screen Shot 2018-11-06 at 9.02.09 PM.png

The Lightspeed World Tour is coming to Houston this Thursday, November 8th!. Headlining the tour is a rapper by the name of Kyle! I feel like in the past couple of posts I haven’t really been able to relate to some of the artists because I didn’t know too much about them, but I actually know who Kyle is, and know some of his music. Kyle has been on the music scene for quite some time. He dropped a project by the name of Beautiful Loser in 2013, dropped Smyle in 2015, and he just recently released Light of Mine back in September of this year. The only one I listened to was Smyle and my favorite song off of that project is Remember Me. The song features Chance the Rapper, and it’s a really good song, I used to listen to it everyday. Although I’ve only listened to one of Kyle’s albums, I really like him because his flow is just like he’s having a regular conversation. His voice a little exaggerated but it’s different and I like it!

Not only is Kyle a rapper, but he can also add actor to his resume because he starred in the Netflix Original, The After Party. I saw the movie and I really enjoyed. It was about a boy in high school trying to get a record deal. It wasn’t working out for him at first, so he thought that he might just need to join the Marines, but his best friend who was also his manager promised to get him a record deal by the end of the day. It was a really funny movie, and also had a lot of other musicians in it. If you haven’t seen it already you should definitely check it out.

The Lightspeed World Tour will be taking place at the House of Blues. The House of Blues is located in the downtown area, and not only is it a music venue, but it’s also a restaurant. I’ve eaten at the House of Blues a long time ago, and the food was really good. I also saw a concert there around this time last year. I went to see Syd and I had a really great time. At the House of Blues you can be in general admission on the floor, or you can purchase seats at the balcony. As you should already know General Admission is first come first served, so you have to get there early if you want to be in the front. When I went to see Syd I was with my best friend and we left early so we could be in the front but we didn’t think we would be in the very first row. We were up close and personal, and after the show we stayed around and got to meet Syd, her pianist, and Tayla Parks who was one of the artists that opened up for her.

I hope Kyle’s concert has a really great turnout because I like him, and if you’re interested in purchasing tickets you can find them on live nation.com.

Legends of Hip Hop

This Saturday local rappers will be teaming up for the Legends of Hip Hop Tour at NRG Arena. The “legends” go by the name of Juvenile, Scarface, 8 Ball & MJG, Too Short, DJ Quik & Bun B. These are all artists from the south and the west coast. Scarface is a Houston native, and Bun B is from Port Arthur which is not too far away. Although Scarface is from Houston I can’t name one of his songs. I’ve probably heard one before, and just didn’t know it was by him, but I can’t say that I’m a very familiar with his music. He did make an appearance at the OTR ll Tour, and he even performed a song.  I’m familiar with Bun B’s music, even the music he recorded when he was in the rap group UGK. I’ve also seen Bun B perform, not at one of his own concerts, but he is always called on stage to perform at least one song at a lot of Houston concerts.

Juvenile is from New Orleans, Louisiana, and I can say that I’m definitely a fan. His song Back That “Thang” up is one of my favorites. Every time I hear it my entire mood changes. That song is a major throwback, and he hasn’t made any hits since 2003. I’m good with the throwbacks though, and if he ever decides to make any new music I’ll be down to listen! I’ve never seen him in concert, but I’m sure he’ll deliver because  a lot of people like his music.  Too Short is from Los Angeles, and I would say he’s of the same caliber as Juvenile. People really love hearing his older music. He is releasing an album on November 9th titled, The Pimp Tape. Two singles from the album have already been released and they are titled ” Go $hort Dog” and “Ain’t My Girlfriend”. I haven’t listened to them, but I will go check them out. I hope they’re good because when artists leave the scene for a long time and try to make a comeback, it’s either a hit or a miss. I’m really hoping that it’s a hit because I just like to see people win.

8 Ball and MJG are a rap duo from Memphis Tennessee. I always hear their names, but I don’t know any of their music. If I have heard them before they were probably featured on somebody else’s song or somebody else was playing their music and failed to mention who the artists were. From my knowledge they haven’t released any new music recently either. Last but not least, we have DJ Quik. I think he’s the person from this lineup that I’ve heard the least about. He released a single back in April called “World Girl”. I’ve never heard it, but I’m sure fans of his probably have.

Personally, I would only consider Bun B, Juvenile, Too Short legends because they’re the rappers that I’m most familiar with. I think I’d also have to give Scarface the legend title too because he’s from Houston, and because I’ve heard people rave about him forever. All of them are highly respected rappers, so I guess they all are truly legends.

Russ and Hot Girl Meg!

russ

This week in hip-hop we have a rapper who goes by Russ coming to the NRG Arena! Russ is a rapper from New Jersey who started releasing music on his soundcloud in 2011. I did some research and I saw he has 12 albums on Apple Music. I have never listened to any of them before, but I did come across his soundcloud page a long time ago, I just never listened to the music. I’m familiar with his name, just not his music. I think it’s very commendable for someone who’s not a mainstream artist to put out the many albums. To me it shows that he really loves what he’s doing. I wouldn’t think of him to be a mainstreamed artist because I’ve never heard him on any radio stations but maybe some people have. He has had a few songs hit the billboard hot 100 charts though. I might just be sleep on Russ! I’ll have to check his music out, and give y’all an update. If you are a fan of Russ, tickets are still being sold to his show on the ticketmaster website. The RUSS: I SEE YOU TOUR PART 2, is happening this Saturday, October 27th at 9 p.m.

megan-stallion-tina-snow-ep-aa-1024x778

Another rapper will be nearby this week. SHE won’t exactly be in Houston, but she’ll be in Huntsville at Sam Houston State University performing at the 15th Annual Blu Dynasty Homecoming party. Yes, I said SHE, MEGAN THEE STALLION will be performing at Sam Houston this Saturday, October 27th! I will definitely be in attendance! I’m a huge fan! I first discovered Megan on twitter. She was in the Houston Cypher video with some other local rappers. Yes she is from Houston! Then I heard one of her songs, Fantasy Remix, on soundcloud and I really liked it, but I never saved it to my likes so I never went back to listen it. Then a year ago my God sister was playing her music in the car and she saved the songs to my phone, and now I listen to her everyday!

She was supposed to be on Iggy Azalea’s Bad Girl Tour, but the tour ended up being cancelled. That hasn’t stopped Megan though, she is making appearances at a lot of different universities in Texas for their homecoming. In fact she will be Houston this Friday performing at TSU! I really like Megan, she represents for all the ladies. Her music embodies confidence, and she just really seems like a genuine person all around. She is a very hard worker. She’s always on social media promoting her music and her shows. Along with rapping, she is a student at Texas Southern University studying Public Health Administration. Hard work definitely pays off she has two EP’s out, she’s been getting some radio play, her music is played in all of the clubs and at all of the parties, and Nicki Minaj just followed her on instagram! I see really great things happening for Megan and I can’t wait for her career to really pop off! If you’ve never heard any of her songs you need to tune in now! She’s on Apple Music, Spotify, Soundcloud, and Tidal. You can keep with her by following her on Instagram and twitter at theestallion!

The Club Scene

1503337575_4f6abd90c4533c06235019ae334b240f

It’s a slow week in Houston for Hip-Hop and R&B concerts, the closest thing to hip-hop concert that’s happening in Houston this week is Derez De’Shon, OTB Fastlane, and Strict Grind WYFY will be coming to Engine Room on Friday, October 19th. They are all  new rappers on the scene. Derez De’ Shon has a hit song on the radio titled Hardaway, and OTB Fastlane has one called Dawg, I really like both songs, but I have never heard of this Strict Grind WYFY guy. I’ll have to look more into him OTB Fastlane is actually a Houston native, and I think he still resides here in Houston, but the the promotors at Engine Room are really highlighting the fact the Derez De’Shon are going to be there.

Engine Room, is a club in downtown Houston. I’ve never been, but I’ve heard things and seen videos of the environment. It’s like any other club experience, overcrowded. If you get a section you’ll have a little bit more personal space, but those cost a lot of money. I once tried to get a section at Engine Room and they told me it was going to be like $500. That includes bottle service, and like 10 people are allowed to get in free. In my personal opinion I don’t think it’s worth it because I think that they might give you one bottle for free, but I’m not even sure if they give you one. Bottles in the club cost over $100, and I heard the sections at Engine Roomare really small. So you might pay $500 for your friends to come chill in your section with you, and they might not all fit. Even if you don’t get a section, you’ll probably be paying what I would think would be a lot of money. They’re probably going to charge one person $30 to get in the club just because they’re going  to have celebrity guests there. You could possibly get on someone’s guest list to get in the club for, but that is something you have to do in advance. In reference to clubs and a lot of other things in life, it’s all about who you know.

I will not be in attendance because this is just not a show that I’m dying to see, and I don’t want to pay to get in the club let alone buy a section. If you happen to be a fan of any of the three performers though, I think you should go. Especially if you like the club scene. I think this could also be a chance to meet the performers as well. Derez De’Shon will be coming back to Houston for his concert at Warehouse Live on December 5th. If you won’t be able to see him this weekend you can see him then. I think that will be a better place to go see him. It will probably still be crowded, but I think it might be a better experience. If you’re looking for tickets to that show you can find them at ticketmaster.com.

New Edition to Kharah’s Concert Life!

This week on Kharah’s Concert Life, I recorded my first ever podcast! It was a really fun experience, and I got talk to about the music I love with my best friend. Amari Jones was my guest on the podcast, and she is the first I interviewed for this blog. One of the things she mentioned on this blog is that her favorite genre is alternative R&b and on the podcast we talked about a few R&B groups.

On Saturday October 13th at 7:00 p.m. 97.9 the Box and Magic 102.1 will be hosting the R&B Superjam at the Smart Financial Centre. Performances for the R&B Superjam will be provided by 702, Ginuwine, Joe, and members from New Edition, Ricky, Ronnie, Bobby and Mike. Hence why I said Edition in my title and not Addition. Fun Fact! Ricky, Ronnie, Bobby, and Mike, have to can’t call themselves New Edition because the other two members of the former group, Johnny and Ralph own the rights to the name. All of the people who are performing in the R&B Superjam are fan favorites from the 90s. This show will be great for all the old heads, the grown and sexy, and for people who just love 90s R&B.

Tyga will also be making his way to Houston this week! Tyga has had some troubles with staying relevant in his career, but he is making a comeback. His single Taste has been doing well on the Billboard charts, and his two other singles, Swish and Dip are popular as well. I really want to see Tyga progress and become the superstar that I can be. I used to be a super fan of him when I was in high school, but I didn’t remain loyal, now that he seems to be back making hits. I’ll reclaim my fan status. If you’re Tyga fan or if you just want to go out to a bar, Tyga will be performing at Scout Bar this Thursday October 11th, at 8:30 p.m.!

Surprise!

I wanted to start this week off with a recap of what happened over the weekend. In my last blog I mentioned that I wasn’t attending the Aubrey & the Three Migos Tour. Well things changed abruptly! I bought my ticket Friday night and I went to the concert on Sunday with my best friend and my little sister. We had a blast! The graphics that were used in the show were phenomenal, some of the best I have ever seen at a concert. Drake even had a yellow Ferrari flying around during the one part of the show. The Migos did well, they didn’t put on a show, but their graphics made up for it. They really just wore their flashy outfits and rapped while walking around on stage, but their music is hype enough to keep the crowd pumped! Drake did amazing, and he performed a lot of his biggest hits, not just songs from his recent album. He even brought out Travis Scott, and they performed their smash hit, SICKO MODE. Travis Scott is a Houston Native, so you know the crowd was super lit. I really enjoyed myself at this concert, and I’m glad that I was able to get last minute tickets.

This week in Houston, a rapper by the name of Kevin Gates will be performing at the Revention Music Center. Gates was released from prison at the beginning of this year. He served nine months for felony gun possession, and just before that he was in prison for six months for kicking a female fan in the chest at one of his shows. . A snippet of an interview that Gates did with Sway Calloway was just released on Monday, and in it he said that he wasn’t in possession of a gun when he was charged, but he pled guilty because he probably would have been incarcerated longer if he tried to beat the case. In spite of the time he spent away, Kevin Gates has a big fan base. He just released his long awaited mixtape, Luca Brasi 3, last Friday. I didn’t listen to it because I’m not really a fan of his. I only know one song and that’s only because it was played on the radio a million times.  I have tons of friends who are though. Maybe one day they’ll put me onto him, and I might really start liking him.

Kevin Gates and his wife Dreka are social media’s “relationship goals”. Their pictures and videos are always going viral, and a number of their pictures have become memes. They have a cute little family! The couple got married in 2015 and they have two adorable children. They have a son named Khaza and a daughter named Islah.

Seeing that I’m not much of a fan, you can already guess that I will not be attending the concert. I only know one song, and as I mentioned before in another blog, I don’t like the setup at the Revention Music Center. I do encourage all the Kevin Gates fans out there attend! Tickets can be purchased at http://www.stubhub.com or http://www.vividseats.com! Don’t be late, the show starts at eight!

Aubrey & Three Migos

drake-migos-tour-updated

Champagne Papi is coming to Houston and he’s bringing the biggest trio along with him! Drake, whose real name is Aubrey and Instagram name is Champagne Papi, and the Migos are the hottest rap stars in the game right now, so it’s only right that they’re touring together! Drake actually introduced the rap trio to a bigger audience than they had before when he was featured on their single Versace in 2013. Drake is also featured on the Migos album latest album, Culture 2. He’s on the hit single, Walk It, Talk It.

Drake started the summer off in a sticky situation. In June, he got caught up in a rap beef with Pusha T. Pusha T took a shot at Drake on his song Infrared when he accused Drake of using a ghostwriter. Drake replied with his own diss track, Duppy Freestyle, but Pusha T came back with the blow of all blows. His last diss to Drake, The Story of Adidon, exposed one of the world’s biggest kept secrets. Drake has a son! There had been speculation about Drake having a child, but this diss record was the evidence the world needed. Drake didn’t respond to the diss, but at the end of that month he released his latest album, Scorpion. In his song Emotionless, he replied to Pusha T’s line from The Story of Adidon saying that he was hiding a son, by saying “I wasn’t hiding’ my kid from the world, I was hidin’ the world from my kid.” The secret about Drake having a son took a toll on all of his fans, but those lyrics let him back into all of our hearts. The album Scorpion did great and the song, In My Feelings, was the summer anthem.

Things for the Migos have been going great, they always have a single on the charts and they’re always featured on songs with other artists. Fans can certainly thank Childish Gambino for that! He helped them get their mainstream start when he announced that their song Bad and Bougie was the best song ever at the 2017 Golden Globes. They’ve been shining ever since, LITERALLY. They wear tons of jewelry and their lifestyle is extremely flashy. Although they just dropped Culture 2 in January of this year, it is rumored that each member of the group is working on their own solo projects.

I’ve loved Drake since I first heard Best I Ever Had when I was 13 years old, and I’m a really big fan of Migos as well, but I won’t be able to attend the tour. I’ve been to one Drake concert before when I was in high school, but I’ve never seen Migos perform in person. I’ve seen a few a television performances, and wish that they would have been a little more hype, but I won’t hold them accountable for those performances. Maybe all those diamonds they wear weigh them down. I still would love to see them perform live one day, but this concert came around way too fast for me. One thing that held me back from initially buying tickets to the tour was that when it first started they were having production issues, and Drake just apologized for cancelling two shows on the tour in Miami last week because he was sick. He promised to make those dates up, but those were kind of red flags for me. I also haven’t heard very good things about how the Migos behave when it comes to their fans. One of my friends said they were rude when she saw them at a club appearance in Vegas, and one fan complained to Instagram about how she’s been a fan of Migos since the very beginning. She bought meet and greet tickets to the tour, and was rushed to take the picture and didn’t even get the chance to hold a conversation with the rap group that she adored so much. Quavo, one of the members, of the group apologized and  provided her with meet and greet tickets to another show. Hopefully everyone on this tour can get all these kinks worked out, so they can give their fans a great experience. If anyone is still looking to purchase tickets for the shows in Houston, you still can. They have three shows at the Toyota Center on September 29th and 30th, and on October 2nd. Tickets can be found on the Ticket Master website. Don’t be boring like me and miss out on all the fun.

This Is America Tour

Coming to Houston this week for the This Is America Tour is Childish Gambino and Rae Sremmurd! I never expected this singer/ rapper and the rap duo to be doing a tour together, but they are, and they will be at the Toyota Center, Saturday September 22nd! Childish Gambino who is the headliner of this tour wears many hats! He is a singer, rapper, actor, and executive producer of his tv show on FX, Atlanta. Childish Gambino is his stage name for his musical ventures, but when he’s acting and producing he goes by Donald Glover. His latest album dropped back in 2016 it’s titled “Awaken, My Love”. If you listen to Hip-Hop or R&B you should know the biggest single from the album, Redbone. It was on the radio for months! The tour is named after Gambino’s popular single This Is America, that was released in May of this year along with the music video. The music video sent out a message about race and gun violence in America, and showed how we are distracted from these important issues by popular dances. People on social media and different news outlets talked about this video for days. It currently has 395 million views on YouTube. He just recently released two songs, and another music video for one of the songs, Feels Like Summer, at the beginning of this month. This video also created a buzz on social media. Donald Glover has won Emmy’s for Atlanta, and a Grammy and a few VMA’s for his musical talents. He truly is a creative genius! Rae Sremmurd is a popular rap duo they’ve been on the scene since 2014Their name spelled backwards is Ear drummers! Their music will definitely burst your ear drums, but in a good way though. Their music is very riveting, and you can always count on a song by them to start the party. The duo consists of two brothers who stage names are Slim Jxmmi and Swae Lee. They just released a three part album titled SR3MM on May 4. The album has a solo project from each member, and a joint one. I’ve never seen Childish Gambino perform live before, but Rae Sremmurd came to Sam Houston State University my freshman year, and I got to see them perform their first big hit. I really enjoyed the performance, and I didn’t want it to end, but at the time that was their only big hit. It’s great too see how big their fanbase has grown and how they have evolved as artists. I can say the same for Childish Gambino, when I first started listening to his music he wasn’t as popular as he is today. I am fans of both Childish Gambino and Rae Sremmurd. Unfortunately, I will not be attending the This Is America Tour, but I know all of the are artists will put on a phenomenal show. They all have very high energy, and I know the audience will love them. For any fans are just now hearing about this there are still tickets available for purchase online on the Toyota Center website.

OTR II

6b06031_27202-oi16et.r2u9The King and Queen are coming to Houston this weekend! Houston Native Beyoncé, and her husband,  Rap Legend Jay-Z will be performing on the Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th at NRG Stadium for their OTR II Tour. OTR II stands for On The Run 2, and this tour has traveled worldwide. As you probably already know the 2 is there because the couple went on tour together back in 2014, and it was titled On The Run. OTR ll is a tour that consists of the couple’s greatest hits separately and the ones they made together. Beyoncé’s last album, Lemonade came out in April of 2016, and it was her response to her husband’s infidelities in their marriage. Jay-Z’s last album, 4:44, came out in June of 2017, and fans can say that it was about him owning up to his mistakes, and apologizing to his wife and family. The couple released a joint album, Everything Is Love, on June 16, 2018.   They listed their name on the album as THE CARTERS to show that their marriage is stronger than ever. The album came as a surprise to everyone! A lot of people were expecting new music from Beyoncé because there have been rumors regarding a track list that she was finalizing, but the track list didn’t resemble any of the songs on Everything Is Love. Fans were also curious as to why the couple was going on tour together because they had both recently completed separate tours. Beyoncé traveled across the North America and Europe in 2016 for the Formation World Tour, and Jay-Z 4:44 tour went across North America in 2017. Beyoncé and Jay-Z are the definition of power couple! They are are always in the mentioned in media. They have a combined network $1.16 billion. They have three beautiful children, Blue, Sir, and Rumi Carter. They give back to several charities. Jay-z has a share in the Brooklyn Nets, and he is the executive producer of two documentaries, Time: The Kalief Browder Story, and Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story. Both documentaries are about the death of young black males caused by police brutality and a corrupt justice system. (There have been rumors that  Beyoncé and Jay-Z have been threatened recently by George Zimmerman, the man who shot and killed Trayvon Martin.) Beyoncé is a force all by herself! The Queen is America’s sweetheart, and in April she made history by being the first black woman to headline Coachella. I will be attending OTR II on Saturday, and I am so excited. If you can’t already tell, I am a Beyoncé stan! Stan-” an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity”. I am also a fan of Jay-Z, but my love for Beyoncé runs deep. I will forever be a member of the Beyhive! I have attended several of Beyoncé’s concerts and I have owned every album. I even have some Destiny’s Child albums. For those of you who don’t know Beyoncé was the lead singer in a girl group Destiny’s Child  before she started her solo career. I don’t thing I’ve ever been to a concert in the NRG Stadium, maybe along time ago when it was under the Reliant name. I’ve been to one in the arena, but I know OTR II will be an experience I’ll never forget. Any show put on by my Queen will be put on with perfection! Well there was a crazy fan that jumped on stage during the OTR II show in Atlanta, but I’m sure they’ve beefed up security since then!
